All the leaves are brown and the sky is grey

Oct 6, 2010

All the leaves are brown and the sky is grey. I went for a walk on a winters day. I'd be safe and warm if I was in SYD-NAY. Australia Dreamin'. On such as winter's day.

Who knew I would be able to relate to the 60's band, "The Mamas and the Papas". I agree and relate wholeheartedly with the lyrics in their chart topping song, "California Dreamin". There is no time when I am more homesick than when the temperature drops!

"The Mamas and the Papas" may have been singing about missing California, but when I feel the first cool, crisp D.C. autumn breeze blowing, I start yearning for my sun shined filled home in Sydney. Right now, all at home are packing up from winter and bouncing into Spring. I on the other hand reluctantly turn on the heat in the apartment for the first time in a long time and pull on my boots and coat to step outside, bracing for the chill on my face. Even though the calender reads autumn, the past couple of days in D.C. have felt decidedly like winter with temperatures dipping down to 9 degrees Celsius/48 degrees Fahrenheit.

As I sit here mourning the loss of balmy D.C. days, something magical occurs. My Skype flashes announcing a new IM from my sister. She is coming to visit in two weeks! Even though I can't go home right now, I get a little slice of home coming my way.....AAAHHHH!
